All last weekend, sitting by the pool with a friend who regularly runs 10ks, and another friend who just finished a triathlon and a duathlon, I couldn't help but notice (and then complain about) the lovely layer of pudge that has settled in around my waist. And in other places, now that I think about it. I've been living a pretty sedentary lifestyle lately, and it shows, and oh boy does it ever show at the pool. Then, when I got home, I weighed myself.
Oh lord.
So, when my friend Allison asked me to accompany me to her yoga class last night, I was ready. I was ready to move, plus I really love the flow of yoga, the control, the meditative aspects....I just haven't done it in a long long time. I had to work very hard to make it through the class with a little dignity, hard enough that my legs shook like crazy in class and were very wobbly for a long time afterwards. Hard enough that my whole body is screaming with soreness today, and I know it will only be worse tomorrow. But it's a good feeling too, right? Just don't make me laugh please; it hurts.
Unfortunately Allison lives pretty far away (40 minutes?) and I'd love to find a place to take yoga by the class in my own neighborhood. Once a week would do me, I think, but so far I'm just finding classes in the range of $17 each. Ouch. Anyone know of anything better? I should also dig around here for my running shoes, I suppose. You know, if I had to. I know we had them at the old house....
Okay. Brace yourself. Don't laugh. I have a friend who is using her Wii fit for yoga. She says it works out great and helps her get through the poses and the kids go along too. You know, if you have one....me, I am still skeptical.

I am training for a triathlon with a teacher friend. I am nervous, but up for the challenge! :)
Swimming is my favorite form of exercise. Any pools around? :)

I'm still working on the "I'm a worsted, my clothes are DK" mindset. I just think that maybe I'm a bulky and my clothes are fingering. Ah well.
I could do a Wii Fit program. Should we make it another -along?

Cycling! Thats the answer! I cycle 15miles per day. And i absolutely love it! Oh the freedom of it! And couple of weeks into it you'll notice you've grown muscles in places you didnt even know had muscles. Like bottom or shoulder blades. And the whole body takes trimmer, leaner appearance. However, yoga and cycling is the winning combination. Have you heard of a place called Yogaville? Its in Virginia. We went there and i loved it. :0)

I'm right there with you, Katherine! Trying on the bridesmaid dress I have to wear in a couple weeks really freaked me out.
Have you checked for yoga classes offered by the YMCA or community ed?

Unfortunately, I understand all too well. Got back from Chicago last Monday... onto the scale Tuesday morning... and started back on Weight Watchers 30 seconds after that!
Been walking 3.5 miles a couple of times a week and that's working GREAT! As you know, I biked a lot this summer... not one pound came off nor did clothes fit better. So finding something you love (like yoga) and that works for you is great!
BTW- I'd be interested in trying out yoga if you found a place and went in the evenings or weekends.

I've been biking alot...although I wasn't do it to lose weight. Just wanted to feel like a kid again. I love just getting out and walking. And I really want to get the Wii fit soon.
I love the idea of yoga, but for whatever reason, it just doesn't stick with me.

I miss my yoga class something fierce. Heck, I miss running this week.
Anyhow, when I can, I do yoga along with the videos on Yoga Journal's website. Not as great as a class, but not stinky either. I'm going to try some DVDs too.
Good luck!
