First of all, I've discovered that little hats are addictive. Just please ignore the ratty pompoms. Tiny pompoms are tricky and the ones I made have the mange, so I improvised and those spiky things are what I ended up with. They also might have the mange.
I knit lots because this was our first fall weekend spent mostly inside. Although we were enjoying our Indian Summer while it lasted, it's now much chillier (with perhaps snow today) and we are happy to settle into some indoor activities: reading, knitting, making up stories, checkers, building with Lego.
We spent a lot of time in the kitchen too. I've been on a bread-making kick lately, and the process finally isn't as stressful as it was at first. And Liam has declared home-made bread "the best bread in the whole world" right after English Muffins; so nice. We also tried a recipe for Chocolate-Swirl Gingerbread with a little whipped cream: delicious!
But the best making of the weekend (closely beating out the mini hats on account of the pompoms) was this recipe for chicken pot pie. We subbed three chicken breasts and boxed broth for a whole chicken, but we did everything else as per the recipe. So we fed the kids....umm.....something else, put them to bed, and sat down to our own dinner at about nine. Well. I have never had such a delicious chicken pot pie. Honestly; I've craving it again right now. Really badly, actually.
So, what do make next? Olivia would like some purple mittens, Liam wants a red scarf, but I do have some undisclosable holiday knitting plans (well, of course they'll be on Ravelry) and time's a gettin' short. Yikes.
*The chicken pot pie song is probably something only Mark and I would find funny, but it's one of those things we sing from time to time: here's a link.
If I didn't love you so much, you would freak me out- Mik and I sing this pretty frequently. I love that episode, but more than that, I love David Cross.
They do have tiny pom pom makers, I don't know if it would work for those hats, but I have seen them, they are quite wee.
And have you seen the english muffin bread recipe? I made some last week- very delish.

Never seen the Chicken Pot Pie diddy, but I can see how it could be addictive. I think all would be well in the world if Arrested Development was back in production. Anyway, I printed off a mini mitten pattern and plan to attack it at some point this week. What in the world are you planning on doing with all those hats???

Such cute little hats! I think the pompoms turned out great.
Sounds like you had a fabulous weekend. I think home-made bread is the best bread in the whole world, too!

Man, I love those nights when the kids eat something else *cough, hot dogs, cough*, and we eat dinner on our own. Pot pies. What a great idea.
Your hats seriously make me smile. Love.them. I think the pom-poms look fine.

I love me some chicken pie. If I'm stressed for time, I'll use frozen puff pastry, but otherwise, how hard is it?
Yum with the home cream sauce. I've decided I like mine made with a bay leaf in it. Infuses the whole thing. . . mmmmmm.
Your knitting flips me out. I'm so low-energy these days that I can't imagine actually accomplishing anything.

Oh my god those hats are so cute. Seriously.
And thanks for two things:
1) the recipe links, I saved both
2) solving the origin of the Chicken Pot Pie song. I've heard someone say it before but I didn't know where it was from :)

I've become distracted by the chocolate gingerbread swirl cake, totally going to have to make it - perhaps this weekend
