And suddenly we are in the midst of the Christmas season! It came on so quickly and we've been going non-stop ever since. I could go on and on, but I won't. But rest assured that even when we're busy the goofiness continues.
First of all, how did I not know about play dresses and leggings? Lately Olivia has been refusing to wear anything but sundresses but will not even consider tights without a fight (and I can't say I blame her; horrible saggy itchy things that they are). Now that winter has set in, getting out the door has involved some lovely discussions. But T-shirt dresses and leggings! "My feet are naked Mommy!" I got three sets, she put the two brightest options together, and we're both happy. Excellent.
Then Christmas knitting. I'm working on a top secret present that I can't even hint about,* but I feel like I must show you the yarn I'm using.
That right there is one whole kilometer of yarn. Or, if you prefer, 0.62 miles. HAND WOUND. Not because I wanted it that way, I assure you, but because the swift/ball winder combo stretched the yarn so tightly that I feared for it's life. See the difference?
So I stopped the winding and got me to the sofa. I think it took about four hours total, over a couple of days. But it is super soft and squishy stuff and I'm really enjoying knitting with it. The crew at knit nite thought the yarn ball needed a face (it's so full of personality), so I'm sure some sort of further silliness will be had. It and I are going to be spending a lot of time together.
Finally, I overheard the following this morning, while Liam was wearing a Santa hat, carrying a little toy reindeer, and ordering his sister around:
Liam: Okay, I'm Santa and this is Rudolph and you're my elf. You make toys, Olivia. {pause} HO HO HO!
Olivia: No. I wanna be a dentist. Humph.
*Okay, one little hint: the designer, well, her needles are on fire. Again.
The kissing dentist in leggings is going to be a HIT. I fondly remember when thing 1 was about that age and we bought an entirely coordinated set of fun dresses and leggings. Oh, was that cute.
Alas, those days are long gone here. Sigh.
Have fun knitting.

Hanna Anderssen! We love her in our house. Allie wore out two playdresses/leggings in one winter. I couldn't believe it. She wouldn't even let me wash them between wearings--it had to be worn AT LEAST twice before she'd even think about putting in the dirty clothes.

Those are some darn cute kids. And 4 hours of handwinding yarn? Wow! Now that's patience.
Love the leggings idea.

She wants to be a DENTIST! Dwayne and I just watched that the other day!

I know it's something cooked up by Kate Gilbert, but no idea as to which pattern. Certainly not the new pea coat pattern in Twisted - the yarn does not appear to be bulky. Hmmm. A mystery.
Could your kids be any cuter?

I want to be under the age of 5 again so wearing brightly colored patterns together is cute and not crazy. :)

Such a pretty dress! My baby is in dress/leggings combo as well, it works. And such a lovely yarn! Cant wait to see the resulting project after all that winding!

Leggings. *sigh* They are adorable, and I love how she can mix whatever patterns she chooses and still be fashionable. :)
Man, I trolled through that designer's designs and I was feeling a little clueless - that seems like too much yarn for a pattern that you have knit before. *wink, wink*
