Back in October I wrote about a family whose two-year-old girl, Tuesday Whitt, was fighting cancer. I only met her parents once, and never met Tuesday herself, but I read her mother's beautifully-written blog and you know how that ties you to people, even if you've never met them. Tuesday died on Friday night.
So I've been thinking about how many good things happened in the days after my parents died. In that spirit, I got in touch with The Children's Hospital here in Denver and found out they would be honored to accept any children's chemo caps we'd like to bring them. I'm part of a little monthly knit/crochet for charity group and for the next month we're going to make hats in Tuesday's memory.
I'm really hoping we get to twenty by the end of February. Would anybody like to help? The only official guideline is that they can't have any choking hazards that could be pulled off. Soft and machine washable are good ideas. All ages of kid, all sizes. We'll take a picture of all the hats and send it to Tuesday's parents as I'm sure they can use all the goodness they can get.
UPDATE: We have waaaay more than twenty! See here (scroll down) and here and keep posted because even more are coming!
I will add chemo caps to my list for this month and do my best. As soon as I hug the girls really hard.

Just really makes you stop and give thanks for how small your problems suddenly are. Can't even comprehend how painful a loss of that caliber is.
Of course, count me in for a hat or two. I even have some Cotton Ease for the job.

Thanks for doing this, Kath! I know Jess and Charley will really appreciate it! As a matter of fact - I told them yesterday when I was at their house and they were so touched! Thanks!

This is heartbreaking. I've been thinking about this for days. I'm not sure I have anything soft *and* machine washable in my stash, but I'll check (or head to the LYS).
On another note, I've nominated you for an award. http://fibercafe.blogspot.com/2009/02/award-for-me.html

Count me in- it gives the the perfect selfless excuse to knit up some of the adorable hats in Knitted Critters that I may have bought with an Xmas gift card! And animal hats should be cheery and fun- just what is needed, right?
