First: Livvy is soother-free. Thanks for the help! We made a point of making sure her favorite stuffed pig was close by in bed and Livvy carried it around more than usual for a few days. She did try out her thumb a few times but always declared it yucky. Nevertheless, I'm feeling like this will NOT be one of those childhood traumas she'll discuss in future therapy sessions. Phew.
Second: I knit socks! (Plural!)
::whispers:: I think I may be a Sock Knitter. I know the proof is in the pudding, but I'm pretty sure this will stick. There wasn't a moment's hesitation between the kitchenering of the first toe and the casting on of the second sock. Although the ribbing was a bit boring, the lacy bits flew by. I love the finished socks (and have already cast on for another pair of socks for Liam).
Fun facts: the pattern is Kai-Mei (Rav) from Cookie A's new book. The yarn is DIC Smooshy in Good Luck Jade. I used 1/2.25mm bamboo needles, which now have distinctive bends in them (I knit a little tightly on the DPNs). As we speak, KnitPicks is whisking me a set of their Harmony DPNs, which I'm hoping I'll love. The people seem to like them, so I'm optimistic (and impatient). I've also joined two Cookie KALs on Ravelry because I've gotten a little obsessed. Good thing I have a stockpile of sock yarn (I knew something like this would happen eventually).
Third: We have babies!
(We also have poo, but just don't look at that part of the picture. After they fledge we'll have disinfecting.)
I saw your socks on ravelry!! They're lovely! Maybe that Cookie A book would help me get my sock mojo back. I'm in a rut, and lord knows I gots me some sock yarn stash. Hooray, Olivia! I knew she could do it all along. I had forgotten about the baby birds. What a gift with the exception of the poo. Happy Mother's Day many days late!

Hopefully there are not any black birds around. My mom thinks the black birds that were swarming her house ate the baby birds that were in the nest on her front wreath door. The girls saw the babies and then my mom and I came back to look at them an hour later and they were gone. So sad!!
P.S. I want some socks! :)

The socks are so incredible! I think some of the STR I picked up at The Fold is destined to be Kai-Meis, or at the very least one of the 2947 Cookie A patterns I like.
Congrats on the successful weaning! ;)

Ooo - those socks are yummy. I might just have to go buy the cookie bookie.
And hooray for soother free! Bet you're glad to have reduced the risk of those monster orthodontist bills too, eh? ;P

Gorgeous socks! Can you send a little sock-knitting mojo in my direction? I could sure use it.
Congrats to Olivia on breaking the habit, and those baby birds are darn cute.

Hooray for Miss Olivia! Big step - I don't care what anyone says, it can be a scary world out there. :)

Wow! Fantastic socks! I wouldn't be able to put shoes on if I made socks like that.

I just ordered the entire set of Harmony cirular interchangeables and have used their DPNs for socks - they are fabulous! Much better than bamboo. Am waiting eagerly for needles to arrive - though not as eagerly as my son, who is waiting for his new cardi (needles and yarn arriving via Knitpicks...).
